Why is IMCA important?

When people cannot make their own decisions about health or social care, doctors or social workers may have to take the decisions for them. They may not have time to find out much about the person, or they may feel under pressure to save their organisation time or money by taking a decision which is not in the individual’s best interests. IMCA provides independent advocates who will take time to get to know the person, look at things from their point of view, and tell their doctor or social worker whether a decision is really in the individual’s best interests.
