Independent Mental Capacity Advocacy (IMCA)
Dorset Advocacy provide the IMCA service for Bournemouth, Dorset and Poole.
Enquiries are made by calling the IMCA hotline on 0845 3891762. We welcome enquiries from anyone; relatives, friends, and staff from hospitals or residential homes, but a formal referral must be made by health or social services before we can begin work.

The role of the IMCA is to get to know the person’s wishes as far as possible, to
speak to others involved in caring for them, and to write a report for the best interests
decision-
IMCAs play an important role in ensuring that decisions about going into a care home, serious medical treatment, or keeping the person safe, are made in a way that really reflects their interests.
